Brussels CoProMarket – Music & Cinema Award

MUSIC & CINEMA AWARD

The Festival International Music & Cinema à Marseille (MCM), formerly known as the Festival International du Film d’Aubagne, has been promoting since 1999 cinematographic creation and musical composition for the screen, by programming both feature-length films and short films and by the organisation of an important industry section around film music, including the European Market for Film Music Composition.

Since 2021, the Brussels International Film Festival and the Festival International Music & Cinema à Marseille have been partnering up to grant the Music & Cinema Award to one of the feature film projects selected at the Brussels CoProMarket. Since 2024, the Brussels Short Film Festival has also partnered with the MCM to present the Music & Cinema Award to one of the short film projects.

The awarded project is automatically selected and invited to the next edition of the European Market for Film Music Composition.

One month before the event, the projects are submitted to composers who work on an original score proposition on the basis of a note of musical intent and the script.

During the festival, the producer and director meet a few composers to discuss the project and the compositions. It will then be up to the composer to convince them to collaborate and create together.

At the end of these meetings, it will be up to each pair to select the composer to whom they will entrust the musical score of their project.

The European Market for Film Music Composition is an initiative of the Festival International Music & Cinema à Marseille and benefits from the support of the SACEM.
