Iranian Women Directors: Multiple Realities in a Paradoxical Context
In the Western world, Iran is mainly known through the media or the cinema, and its image is often influenced by an “Orientalist” vision which distorts the multiplicity of realities of this complex and paradoxical society. While Iranian women seem sometimes oppressed, sometimes free, they have actually been taking action in the country for more than a hundred years. Those actions have reached an unprecedented peak in our days.
This programme of short films aims to show different points of view of Iranian women on issues that concern them directly. Through animation and fiction, these films look at the challenges of contemporary period and offer a glimpse into the place of women in Iranian society and beyond.
The screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Fery Malek-Madani (Art Cantara asbl) and the directors Farnoosh Samadi (Gaze) and Ghasideh Golmakani (Horn).
