VAF Wildcards

03.05.2023 – 20.00 – Flagey

Every year, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) rewards the best short films of emerging talents in Flemish film schools with an award with a wildcard. It serves as an important springboard in the career of young directors. During a tour, the awarded films are screened through Flanders and also in Brussels as part of the Brussels Short Film Festival. By taking part in this tour, the BSFF is happy to contribute to the promotion of these short films by screening them to a large audience from Brussels. You can discover the four winners of 2022 during the screening at the BSFF!

The looks of a character of mixed ethnicities are continuously changing: hair, posture and skin colour shift, intersect and alternate each other, creating a choreography of looks and poses based on representations throughout art-history and pop-culture. The changing looks influence our gaze, and the different gazes influence the personal growth and struggle of the character, who’s trying to find a place between acceptance and otherness.
